The Florida Diaries: Part Two.

Hello all and welcome to Florida part two (!!) If you have not already read about part one then click here. I am so thrilled to be sharing more about my beach vacation. Scrolling through the pictures on my laptop has gotten me so excited to continue this series.

First night out exploring took us to a restaurant on the water called Aj’s. This is a popular spot for vacationers as it sits on the Harbor Village Boardwalk. They have a wide variety of food (seafood) of course but also yummy pastas and grilled chicken for those who do not eat seafood. This time around I tried the sushi and absolutely LOVED it (!!) so fresh and light paired with garlic butter edamame.  Not to mention the view of in bound boats, Aj’s is a great place to watch the sunset.

My recommendation is going right before the sunsets because the view is gorgeous!! Be prepared for a wait if you go around 6 or 7, we tend to go at 5 to beat the crowd. After all you’re on vaca so why spend the time waiting (?!) Food wise you cannot go wrong. They have an array of choices so take your pick.

My family chose to grill out at our condo one night. There’s nothing better than grilling on the beach I think. We sat around sharing stories and listening to my grandparents speak about their lives. A great cozy evening with family that you couldn’t get sitting around a table at a restaurant. This is also another way to save a little bit of money money if you are looking to spend less. The condo unit we stay at has a kitchen and outside grills.

If you like pizza then I would suggest Landsharks Pizza. A local bar with sports teams posted all over the walls and arcade games in the back. Delicious pizza and even better wings. This is a more local place and was not as crowded as other places in town.

Of course I cannot fail to mention The Donut Hole. Be prepared to stand in line if you are not there by 7 am or earlier. EVERYONE goes there to grab a diner style breakfast or of course donuts. The donuts are rich in flavor and made more like cake donuts. Try it out if you ever visit Destin, Fl.

-For Fun-

If laying on the beach everyday isn’t for you then here are a few activities that we found worth the money and time.

We decided to rent a boat and let me tell you this ended up being everybody’s favorite day! There is a little island called Crab Island, that is filled with inflatables and swim up shacks. The whole idea is to anchor your boat get out and just float! To top it off we were able to see dolphins (!!) so close that you could hear when they breathed. No need to spend extra money on a dolphin tour because we made our own.

Food and drinks are a tad pricey (go figure) BUT the fish tacos were worth every penny! An amazing crunchy but still soft taco with fresh fish mixed in a delicious sauce. I recommend trying if you are into that kind of stuff.

Of course we had to do an activity the grandparents wanted (or I had to). They chose to parasail and let me tag a long. This was probably the highlight of the trip for me, what a memory that was made to be above all the hustle and bustle with your grandparents!! If you want to try your hand at parasailing go to Just Chute Me… yes that is the real name… and yes I was skeptic to get on the boat. In all seriousness the two men aboard were fantastic! They fulfilled all of my grandparents needs and even went right by our condo for our family to see.

Go check out Seaside for little shops, yummy snacks, and scenic views. From Destin to Seaside you take 30A, an ever so popular tourist area. We decided not go on this trip but I have been twice before. This is good for those who want a break from the water but still makes for a fun day. There is no ideal time to go, it will always be busy with residents and visitors.

While eating at Aj’s we had a little walk around the Harbor. Pretty much a tourist trap especially if you have young ones. It is nice to do while you wait for a table or want to walk off your meal after. The harbor is filled with activities for kids, shops, food vendors, and live music. *Side story: my nephew wanted to zip line, when he reached the top he decided he didn’t want to, money is non refundable so of course I took his place.
